On March 3, 2025, the Minister of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 156/QĐ-BKHCN, defining the functions, duties, authority, and organizational structure of the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam).
IP Vietnam continues to carry out its assigned tasks and authority as stipulated in its Organizational and Operational Charter (issued under Decision No. 166/QĐ-BKHCN on February 26, 2024).
Additionally, the office has undergone structural adjustments to streamline its organization, aligning with the Party’s directive on administrative reform (Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW, dated October 25, 2017). As a result, the number of affiliated units has been reduced from 13 to 11, including 7 administrative units and 4 public service units:
Administrative Units:
- Office of IP Vietnam
- Planning and Finance Division
- Personnel and Organization Division
- Registration Division
- Legal and Policy Division
- International Cooperation Division
- Inspection and Complaint Settlement Division
Public Service Units:
- Patent Examination Center
- Trademark Examination Center
- International Trademark, Geographical Indications, and Industrial Design Examination Center
- Intellectual Property Asset Development Center
The Director General of IP Vietnam is responsible for defining the functions, duties, and authority of the public service units, subject to approval by the Minister of Science and Technology. The roles and working relationships of the divisions within IP Vietnam are also determined by the Director General.
This decision takes effect on March 1, 2025.
